Netflix Review- On My Block

Philip Randazzo, Staff Writer

In the Netflix series “On My Block,” four teenagers living in a rough Los Angeles neighborhood face conflict with rivaling gangs interwoven within the city. In season one, Cesar Diaz (Diego Tinoco) is part of The Santos, a hispanic gang who has an ongoing feud with The Prophets, a predominately black gang. Cesar’s friends Monse (Sierra Capri), Ruby (Jason Genao) and Jamal (Brett Gray) are determined to free Cesar from the toxic gang before tensions get too strong, resulting in an unexpected ending in the season finale. “On My Block” is a relatable tv show in the modern era, and consists of an all-minority cast. It is the type of show you can binge watch for hours straight without growing bored. The plot has multiple twists and turns, and each story has a mystery-based subplot added to it in order to keep the audience further engaged. For young adult actors who are just starting out, this cast is extremely mature and an excellent addition to Netflix!
