On Friday, 22 BHS French students boarded the flight to Saumur, France to experience its culture, language and deepen their knowledge of the country’s history. The students will get a chance to use the language skills they’ve cultivated to communicate with the native French speakers.
The students are staying with host families. While on the trip, students will attend classes at school with their host siblings. Fadner Pierre gave more insight on the trip and specific details. Pierre, one of the French teachers, helped plan the trips and he has extensive knowledge about French culture to back his already vast expertise. Pierre knows how it feels to be in a different environment.
“One of the reasons why we do it (the trip), students are exposed to not only the culture and geopolitical issues but also it helps them become even better global citizens,” said Pierre.
Students get to see how a different county views Americans, they might have to defend themselves and explain how things are in the states.
“The worst part is definitely the planning of the trip is finding a school that will take all the students and finding a company that would be kind enough to arrange everything. The best part is definitely seeing the kids enjoy the trip and seeing them improve in real time, and show even more interest in traveling all together,” Pierre explained.
The students interest is a top priority of his and he really enjoys the growth that they put on display. This trip is highly recommended to students who are eligible to take it. “This can make them better global citizens and create a better understanding of their culture,” said Pierre.
He highlights the importance of understanding the world that we all share and how we can learn and develop better skills to understand the things that are always around us. This is his 5th year attending France with students.
Each trip clearly has a very strong impact on everyone involved. French class can create a real interest in students to travel, learn and better themselves for their own self interests; not just for school. This is the point of the trip being offered to students. Exposing kids to the world can impact anyone in ways they never thought were possible.
