A little over 36 years ago, a movie came out about a Naval Fighter Weapons School where the best of the best train called “Top Gun”. Tom Cruise starred in it when he was 24 as Maverick and is now back at age 59 in the new “Top Gun Maverick.”

“Top Gun Maverick”, picks up with Pete “Maverick” Mitchell after more than 30 years later as one of the Navy’s top aviators, pushing the edge as a brave test pilot, but avoiding advancement in rank that would ground him. Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past and his worst fears, while training new graduates for a special mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it. This movie has gotten outstanding reviews all over the world. This is to be expected as they used real fighter planes, and all the flying scenes used very little CGI. All the stunts were as real as they could be, and it is stated at the beginning of the movie when Tom Cruise talks directly to the audience. I have to say this is by far one of the better action movies in a while, just because they barely used CGI.

Another thing that made this movie great was that they brought back most of the same actors, including Val Kilmer, which was very unexpected for most. The best new actor was Miles Teller as ‘Rooster’. Teller played the son of  ‘Goose’ who died in the original “Top Gun”.  Fans instantly fell in love with Teller, and his resemblance to young Anthony Edwards, who played Goose, was spot on.

The sequel is never better than the original, but this movie is almost equal to its original. This movie will make you cry and laugh, so I definitely recommend it. I will be giving it a 10/10 and if you haven’t seen the original “Top Gun” watch it so you can go see this movie.
