Insight Riddles: Escape Room Proves Challenging

Isabelle Barrett, Staff Writer

Trying to find something fun to do during a Cape Cod winter is a puzzle. But it’s no Riddle. Located in the Mashpee Commons, Riddle is an “Escape Room”, described on its website as “a live action adventure game for people ages 10 to 110. Players are locked in a room and have 60 minutes to complete a mission by solving a series of puzzles, riddles and connecting clues.”

When my fellow Insighters and I arrived, we were greeted by friendly staff who taught us the rules of the room. Riddle offers six differently themed rooms; from pirate to vampire to Candy Land. They’re all authentically decorated, so you really are immersed in the culture of whatever room you choose. We chose to teleport into “Heather’s bedroom,” the average 1980’s teenage girl. Heather is just as you’d expect her to be-super secretive, very dramatic, and a John Stamos fangirl. Our mission was to find the clues in the room that would lead to us unlocking the door and escaping.

Participants are not actually alone in the room. Each is equipped with a camera and speaker, so the that you can communicate with the staff as they omnipotently watch you frantically search for clues with your friends. Don’t worry, though, they’re there to help, too. Over the course of the hour, you’re allotted three hints.

Even after using up all our hints, we still couldn’t escape in time. Although I cannot reveal anything to you about escaping Heather’s bedroom, I can assure you that it will not be boring (or easy).

That’s a good thing about Riddle, though, because losing gives you a reason to go back and try again. Riddle is a great place to go and escape our technologically-centric society with friends, family, or coworkers to generate trust, work together, and have fun.

The cost of playing in 30 dollars per person. For more information, visit https://www.riddlecapecod.com.
