If there is one couple who certainly has the ability to influence the masses and make their mark in music history, Beyoncé and Jay Z certainly come to mind. Both independent artists, their first collaboration was on Jay’s track ”03 Bonnie and Clyde” in 2002. After the music video came out, rumors of them being together had sparked. By 2003 they were quite public about their relationship, performing “Crazy in Love” together at the MTV music awards a year into their relationship. In the years after that they were spotted at countless events, awards shows, and even vacations together. Spotted at such outings is pretty standard for a celebrity couple, based on the fact that all aspects of their lives are in the spotlight, but these two are different. Not every celebrity couple can be given the title of “power couple” and theres a few reasons why.

They’re already a billionaire couple, a first for the music industry. Forbes ranked them as the highest paid celebrity couple in 2012. But, they aren’t just music artists, Beyoncé has collaborated with brands like L’oreal, Gucci, Pepsi, and H&M and starred in hit films such as Dreamgirls, CadillacRecords and TheFightingTemptations. Not to mention the fact that she’s won over 17 Grammys and sold over 75 million records. From her last solo tour, The Mrs Carter Show, she’s made a total of 116 million dollars, and this is just Beyoncé. Jay has had a widely successful music career as well, but also is the co- founder of Roc Nation, co- creator of Rocawear, former CEO of Def Jam Recordings, part owner of the Barclays Center, and he has sold over 50 million records. They certainly are just as skilled in the world of business as they are the music industry.

It’s safe to say that they don’t have to depend on each other financially, making them all the more successful when they do collaborate. From “Crazy in Love” and “03 Bonnie and Clyde” in 2003, to “Déjà Vu” in 2006, to more recently “Drunk in Love” and “Part II (On the Run)” in 2013, their fans love them just as much together as they do apart, musically that is. In fact, this summer they will be going on the “On the Run Tour”, the single “Part II (On the Run)” is a sort of sequel to their first collaboration in 2002. The trailer for the summer tour certainly has  Bonnie and Clyde theme which is very fitting. The tour includes several shows across North America and a couple in europe.

In 2012 their family of two became one of three. Blue Ivy Carter was born on January 7. From Beyoncé’s reveal of her baby bump on 2011 at the MTV music awards to her birth at Lennox Hill Hospital in New York City, Blue has been making national news since before she was even born. On Beyoncé’s most recent self titled album, she has a song Blue (feat. Blue Ivy) making Blue the youngest Billboard charting artist in history. Looks like the daughter of this power couple is becoming quite the music icon and she isn’t even 3 years old.

Between their net worth to their successes in both the business world and music industry, it’s quite plausible that one day Bey and Jay could take over the world.
