Even after Halloween, chills will linger as an eerie play takes place center stage at Barnstable High School. Drenched in mystery and suspense, the play unfolds, making every heartbeat echo with anticipation. Barnstable High School Drama Club presents “A-Haunting We Will Go” this weekend.
“A-Haunting We Will Go” is about Norma Corwin, a young television producer, who made a childhood vow that once in her life she would spend a night alone at The Inn of the Three Sisters, a forbidding hotel famous for an unresolved murder, horrifying spirit manifestations and murderous intrigue.
Senior Ryan Field plays Tom Wilson, a young military man, in the play. He has had numerous roles throughout his BHS acting career such as Bert in “Mary Poppins”, and Donkey in “Shrek.” In last year’s fall play, “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” he played Leaf Coneybear. He describes this play as “creepy and haunting with comedic elements”, as well as including many twists and a very shocking ending.
“[Director] Mrs. Barth chose the play to be a more spooky and creepy show just in time for Halloween,” according to Field. “It was chosen over other plays because it contains all elements of creepy and blends it together with a comedic script,” he added.
Senior Olivia Thompson plays the main character Norma Corwin. Last year she played Ms. Andrew in the musical ” Mary Poppins”. She has also played numerous roles at Cape Cod Theatre Company and the Young Company at Cape Rep Theatre. She described this play as “exciting.”
Junior Triniece Clegg described the play as “thrilling”. She plays Madame Lugosi, an expert in ESP and other sixth senses, in” A-Haunting We Will Go.”
BHSDC Director Mary Barth has been here for three years. She has directed “Shrek the Musical”, “Mary Poppins”, and “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee”.
“I would not be able to do it without the help of the crew,” said Barth. She was in drama club when she was a student at BHS and played various roles such as Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz”. She is hoping for a packed audience and for the cast to have fun.
Jack Kullas, who plays Bates, a likely criminal, described the play as “vigorous”. This is his senior year and he is new to drama.
“A-Haunting We Will Go” is set to be performed this week. Tickets are available now. It will be in the Knight Hall on Thurs. Nov. 2, Fri. Nov. 3, and Sat. Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. It has a running time of 75 minutes. General admission is $15. Seniors and students are $10. The play is pg-13 and there is some strobe lighting.
