Cheap Eats: Taste Of Siam
February 5, 2020
After eating at Taste of Siam on Main Street, Hyannis, I feel satisfied, impressed and assured that I could go back every day this week without breaking the bank!
The open-concept restaurant offers a warm environment with tables lining the rectangular room and a cozy booth in one of the corners. The restaurant is pretty bare as far as decorations are concerned, but the red-orange walls seem to make enough of an appearance.
As soon as my mom and I walked through the doors we were warmly greeted by the staff, and on top of that, had the luxury of being able to pick any table that we desired — mainly because every table was empty but no one’s complaining.
The menu is made up of mouth watering foods including soups, salads, many noodle dishes and so much more. Every item on the menu is under $20 each, and if that makes you question the quality of the food, you need not worry because they pride themselves in using, “only the freshest ingredients,” according to their website.
I chose the chicken pad thai, a classic plate but still exemplary. This dish consists of rice noodles stir fried with eggs, scallions, bean sprouts, ground peanuts and chicken. While these ingredients made for an amazing meal, my favorite part about it was its price. With this dish being big enough to easily share with a friend or two, its price at $12 is very appealing; and you just can’t shake a stick at that, as my grandma would say. The chicken was a little dry, but the noodles were able to compensate for this due to their more wet nature. The sprouts and peanuts added a nice crunch to the meal that it would have lacked otherwise.
My mom ordered the sweet and sour crispy chicken fried rice for a whopping $14 and, again, was very shareable. This plate was made up of eggs, onions, carrots, scallions, peas and crispy chicken with a sweet and sour sauce on top. The selection, a house special, was both fresh and flavorful in taste, according to my mom.
The menu is fairly diverse and can definitely appeal to many different people as they have more simple foods like chicken fingers and salad as well. An added bonus to their already inexpensive menu is the lunch combo that they offer Monday-Friday from 11 am to 3 pm. This deal includes one lunch, (which could be pad thai, a rice dish, etc.) one appetizer and your choice of either a salad or soup for a total of $12. This is an awesome deal for a pretty hefty amount of food.
The restaurant’s hours vary a little bit from day to day, but for the most part they are open from 11 am- 10pm Tuesday through Sunday (see website for a more detailed time chart) and are closed on Monday.
Taste of Siam is a great, affordable option for students and adults alike who are looking for Thai food. The restaurant is convenient and casual and thus is a great place to bring a friend and share a high quality meal for less. I already look forward to my next meal that comes from Taste of Siam!
