Trends In The 2000’s

2000-2010 was an iconic decade for many. With unforgettable fashion, toys, and trends the 2000’s period without a doubt sets itself apart from the others. Now that a new decade is approaching, let’s look back one some of our favorite 2000s trends.
Fashion – The 2000s sparked a fashion explosion with many style icons emerging from this era. Many categories of wardrobe were also formed at this time. Examples include emo, scene styles that were inspired by indie, punk and rock bands of the time. Athleisure wore tracksuits that came in bright colors and were often encrusted with rhinestone logos and phrases. Air force 1’s, baggy pants, overcut jeans, dad hats, black leather jackets, and letterman jacket were pieces commonly worn by men in the 2000’s. As for women, low cut jeans, mesh/handkerchief tops, shiny pants, box pleated or leather skirts, cargo pants, and capris were must haves. And lastly, ‘Street Chic’ which was heavily influenced by popular rappers such as Jay-Z, Diddy, Nelly and 50 cent according to centralcasting.com.
Electronics – Devices such as the Blackberry, Nintendo DS, PSP, XBOX, iPhone, PS3, Wii, Minecraft, and Smart TVs all came to be in the 2000’s. Technology was blossoming in this decade with more and more efficient ways to play games, download music, and watch TV being developed in this time.
Music – Music in the 2000’s was mostly hip hop dominated. Rock was still popular despite this, but many sub-genres resurfaced due to digital distribution and the return of garage rock. Music in the 2000’s was still heavily influenced by the 90’s, with many artists from then still producing chart topping hits, according to songfacts.com. Some songs you might remember are “Dynamite” by Taio Cruz, “Crazy In Love” by Beyonce, “Hey Ya” by Outkast, “I Gotta Feeling” by The Black Eyed Peas, and “Yeah!” by Usher.
TV shows – The 2000’s is often referred to as the golden age of television or the Platinum age of television with shows like “That’s So Raven” , “Drake and Josh”, “The Suite of Zack and Cody”, “Zoey 101”, “Hannah Montana”, “The Big Bang Theory”, “Lizzie Mcguire” , “The OC”, “The Office”, “Gilmore Girls” and many more. The 2000’s also sparked a boom in reality television evidenced by the popularity of Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Survivor during this decade.
Movies – Technological advances in the 2000’s also greatly affected the film industry with movies having better effects, sound and production overall. Movies you might remember from this decade include Legally Blonde, Finding Nemo, Cars, Mean Girls,White Chicks, Avatar, Shrek, Kill Bill: Volume 1, UP, Monster’s Inc, Princess and the Frog, and The Incredibles.
Sayings – “Dawg”, “as if”, “what crackin”, “’trash”, “peace out”, “crunk” and “Chillax” were all sayings coined in the 2000’s. Although slang changes year to year, we can sometimes find ourselves still using slang from the 2000’s. Which ones do you still use?
