Senior Hannah Neary, a member of the BHS varsity girls lacrosse team, is certainly a standout star based on her talent and all around love for the game. She is also a member of the varsity girls’ soccer team. In her off-season, Neary runs and works out on a regular basis to stay in shape during the winter months and to prepare for tryouts in the spring.

Her soccer coach and former lacrosse coach, Lee Docherty, raves about Neary’s athletic abilities as well as her determined mind set. Neary first picked up both sports in the eighth grade along with some of her friends, and after taking particular interest in lacrosse, she attended lacrosse camp and simply fell in love with the sport.

“Lacrosse comes more naturally to me, I love the team atmosphere and just playing with everybody,” said Neary. Jenni Sadler Arthur, current BHS girls varsity lacrosse coach, said that Neary gets the big picture of the sport and is very coachable. She “leads by example, and acts like she should on and off the field,” said Sadler.

By setting such an example Sadler mentions what a positive effect Neary has on the team as a whole, especially the younger players.  Neary’s position on the field is an attacker or attack wing. “Looks are deceiving, she is small, but her speed and stick skills are amazing,” said Sadler.

When preparing for games, “I imagine myself playing, and try to get myself into that game zone,” said Neary. She also listens to music to get herself focused and into the zone on game days. Her preparation in her off-season as well as her passion for this sport has brought Neary success on the lacrosse field.
