Despite a summer that called for sweaters nearly every night, it is “officially” sweater weather, people! So put away that Lilly Pulitzer dress (hopefully forever) and get ready for everyone’s favorite comfy-cozy season. The great thing about fall is that, even though there are new trends each year, fall styles are made up of a ton of basic and classic staple pieces that never go out of style like your favorite riding boots and those thrift-store sweaters and flannels we just can’t seem to get enough of.

One thing that will be popping up everywhere this season is  leather. From leather trimmed shirts and pants to patent leather skirts, the fashion world seems to be incorporating it into most of the styles this fall. There are so many different ways to put leather in your outfit, no matter what kind of style you have. Leather is even putting a twist on Converse, creating a new pair of Leather Chuck Taylors rather than canvas. If you don’t want to go too edgy with it, take the more casual approach and find yourself a simple leather jacket. Personally I would look in local thrift shops because the worn-out look is in. If you’re willing to spend a little more money on one I found quite a few online on different sites and have seen some in stores that started as low as $39.99 at Marshalls.

Another item that seems to be making the rounds is the infamous green army jacket. It has made a significant comeback in the past couple years and it looks like it’s here to stay. If you are anything like me, you probably are pretty excited to rock yours again this fall. Watch out this season for new spunky versions of this piece, as many labels from Forever 21 to Steve Madden and Free People give a new take on this classic look, adding designs, leather, studs, and even plaid to give their jackets a twist. While your favorite green jacket is a must-have, why should it look the same as everyone else’s? Add a little personality to it. Make it your own. That’s what’s in.

And what could pair better with your rockin’ green jacket than a killer pair of jeans? The jeans that seem to be killing it this season are boyfriend jeans, especially distressed ones. And by distressed, I’m talking about frayed from lower thigh to upper ankle. One thing I have to stress though, is that it is a very delicate art to rock these jeans and more often than not, people don’t (myself included). So when you think about buying yourself a pair, make sure they feel good and more importantly, look good. Due to the bagginess of the boyfriend jean many pairs tend to make a girl just look frumpy. If you don’t like the way they look on you there are many other classic jeans to turn to, and fall is the perfect time to rock your favorite skinny jeans, so don’t limit yourself because, for the most part, a pair of jeans tends to never go out of style.

The key word to fashion this season seems to be vintage. Distressed everything, combined with everything leather and studded seems to be taking us back to many classic looks of the 90’s and even the 80’s. This fall, you will never go wrong with a old-school band graphic tee, jeans, and a pair of high top Chuck Taylors..a look that was practically a uniform twenty years ago. The key to buying the right vintage tees is that there honestly is no key. It is actually pretty tough to buy an ugly one unless you just buy the most obnoxious one in the store. And the beauty of them is that you can get them anywhere from Forever 21 to Urban Outfitters to your local thrift stores. And you don’t have to limit yourself to tees either; I have a sweatshirt that’s both vintage and distressed. It is one of my favorite things to wear. Fashion tends to repeat itself and I find my mother saying that she had something just like half of the things in my closet when she was my age, so if your mom is someone who saves clothes, take a look at her old stuff and you will probably find something awesome (and free).
